MockForge vs Microcks
A contract-testing platform, or a local simulation process?
Reviewed October 12, 2026. Compare the documented workflows below using your own contract and fixtures.
Where each tool fits
Microcks supports REST, SOAP, GraphQL, gRPC, and event-driven API artifacts. It offers protocol-specific contract testing, including OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, and protobuf strategies.
Choose Microcks when artifact management and provider or consumer conformance are central to your team workflow. Choose MockForge when you want a local CLI process driven by checked-in configuration and specifications.
Microcks sources: Microcks. Contract test strategies. Supported artifacts.
What you can run with MockForge
| Workflow | Available path | Proof and setup |
|---|---|---|
| Local server | Open-source CLI or container; no MockForge account required. | Quick start |
| Configuration in Git | Review YAML configuration and OpenAPI files alongside your code. | Configuration files |
| Failure behavior | Configure latency and fault simulation for your test environment. | Chaos configuration |
| Costs | The open-source local runtime is free. Hosted plans are a separate choice. | Hosted pricing |
Evaluate a migration
Treat the OpenAPI document as a shared contract. Recreate example selection and test expectations explicitly; Microcks artifact and test-strategy configuration is not interchangeable with MockForge configuration.
External AI providers and upstream services use the connections you configure. Keep credentials out of committed configuration and use synthetic data for shared fixtures.
